The Maynard Cape: Kitchen Before and After

The kitchen. I had never seen a yellow kitchen before this house. I managed to snag a piece of the wallpaper and framed it, adding it to my collection from previous renovation houses. I demoed the kitchen primarily by myself on our first day. My dad claimed he was staying out of my way, but let's call a spade a spade. He was letting me do the heavy lifting. It's fine. It was a good workout for me.

Gosh, that kitchen was gross. And tight. We took down the wall between the kitchen and dining room and immediately it opened up the space, brought in light, made it feel brand new.

Before starting on this renovation I'd read that grey cabinets were "out" but I really wanted to do them in this house. I knew I wanted to go with a white color on the walls and white quartz countertops and I wanted something to contrast. Sure, maybe grey is not longer what the cool kids consider in, but I think it looks so classic in this space. I regret it not.

Little touches to notice: the shiplap on the back of the peninsula to match the living room wall, the glass panels in the corner cabinets, marble backsplash tile that we've used in previous kitchen renovations. When you find something you like working with that looks classic against any cabinet and countertop then why not keep using it. And unlike patterned tile, a classic marble backsplash will never go out of style.

So that's the kitchen and that's the Maynard house. I hope you enjoyed this renovation because we love the end result and hopefully a buyer will too.
