The Chalet: I'm Falling Apart But The House Looks Great

To quote Leslie Knope, "Everything hurts and I'm dying." Last week my throat started hurting akin to the start of something flu-ish. But then after two days it went away... kind of. Then Sunday I did something maybe while loading bricks into the bed of my truck, pulled a muscle? in my side along my third rib from front to back, where every position I sit, stand, lay it hurts. So pretty much I'm dying. It was nice knowing you.

Yesterday was my father's birthday, so I made brownies for him, and my sister popped over with a card and in a miraculous turn of events she let me take a photo with her. And she sort of smiled! I don't think you quite realize how rare this actually is. It's like spotting a unicorn. The puppy ears and noses maybe helped.

Anywho, after weeks of The roofers are supposed to be starting, they finally showed up this weekend. Chugging red bull and reeking of cigarettes they began tackling the odd roof we have. Half of it is normal and half of it looks like a stormtrooper helmet. Over the weekend they got to work and got quite a lot done. It looks so shiny and new (well maybe not shiny, but at least weatherproof). As someone who gets the shakes on the third step of a ladder, I give them major kudos for what they do. I certainly could not do it.

And lastly, yesterday I started off painting (never-ending painting) and then after lunch moved on to grout. Because I am a weenie whiner, my father offered to do the showers in both bathrooms. As we learned from the last house, vertical grout pretty much reduces me to an angry mess of tears. So I was tasked with the floors. I will grout floors any day. I wanted to use a darker floor tile in this house to hide any mess. In the last house we used a lighter tile and you could see the tiniest fleck of dirt on it. People create messes so why not use a tile that doesn't make that mess so obvious?

Anywho, we're nearing the end. Or so we're saying. And hoping. I love this house and I'll be sad to say goodbye to it, but I'm also really excited for weekends with no plans where I can sleep in, get together with friends, stay home in sweats and make soup, whatever. But before we get there, I can't wait to share the before and after photos with you. This has by far been the biggest transformation we've done. And I love it.

  1. Pardon me, but is that a giant S on the chimney?? If it's not... I declare that it's an S or a money sign. Good day.
