Ranch House - Dining/Living Area

Let's take a moment to remember the dark, dirty living room (shivers)...

And the small kitchen with the tar-sticky cabinets...

The linoleum floors and the illegally wired stove. (Don't even get me started on the cabinet full of empty liquor bottles.) Why were curtains like that ever considered a good idea?

Out went the cabinets and the sliding glass doors...

Goodbye two layers of linoleum...

Goodbye doorway...

Goodbye walled-in stairway to the basement...

Goodbye walls...

In went a support beam...

Out went two windows and in went french doors...

The walls and ceiling were painted, the floors sanded down then stained...

Let's remember what the stairs to the basement looked like again...

And now (cue gospel music)...

Custom made by my father, the railing incorporates his history in ironwork with some beautiful wood. How gorgeous is that?!

Now, instead of the dark, closed off rooms we originally walked into, we have an open space that works as both living room and dining room. Having spent entire days in the house, I can tell you that the sun lights up the house from the backyard all day, through the french doors. It's amazing and I know my cats would love to sunbathe all day there.

The dining space could comfortably fit a ten-person table. Imagine hosting a holiday here - the kids playing outside or in the basement while the adults cook and hang out upstairs.

Have you fallen in love yet? I know I have. At the open house one party commented that they felt "the space is an odd layout".

I just...

Perhaps that person is not comfortable with open-concept and prefers small, dark rooms. Who knows.

Anywho, that's that.
