Book Groups

Two posts in one day? I know.

But the most amazing thing just happened and I had to share.

Preface: I am sick. It started last week as a sore throat and manifested itself into full-blown cold. I sound like a man, I cannot breathe out of my nose, I have a rasping cough that sounds like I'm a life-long smoker (I'm not) and there might be creatures living in my lungs. I desperately want to crawl in bed and finish the last fifty pages of Jandy Nelson's "I'll Give You The Sun". Desperately.

But I'm here at work today, whittling the day away pretending that I can breathe without it turning into a coughing fit. And then a coworker called, she read "I Want To Hold Your Hand" last winter and gave me a blushing review, to tell me that she'd passed the book on to a friend who was so into it that even though she's a late sleeper on the weekends she got up early to finish it and is now passing it on to a book group. I nearly burst into tears. I lovelovelovelovelove hearing things like this. Love might not be the right word because it actually makes me feel like my heart is exploding. Because I know that feeling so well, of choosing reading over sleep. It's the absolute best when you're so involved in a book that you'd rather turn into a blearly-eyed zombie the next day than go to sleep without know what happens next.

Leave it to Agnes to encapsulate my feelings.

Now if I could just find a tissue that doesn't turn my nose red.

Happy Reading!!

PS. You can buy your own copy of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" (in case you too prefer reading to sleep)
