Travel and Audiobooks

Last Friday my mother and I hopped in my car and drove south. I had a wedding in DC on Saturday and not wanting to drive alone we made a weekend of it. I very much dislike driving for a long time. Something about the hills and trees lulls me to sleep, especially in New England. So to keep awake and entertain ourselves my mother got OUTLANDER on disc. Twenty-eight discs. Neither of us had ever listened to a book on tape so it was exciting to give it a go. We drove for seven hours on Friday to Pennsylvania, three hours on Saturday to DC and then about nine hours on Sunday back to Massachusetts and only made it through 12 of the 28 discs!

Having the story going during the trip was amazing. I never once felt like the trip was dragging. In fact, I couldn't wait to get in the car each day. And aside from a necessary Dunkin Donuts stop for an iced coffee in New Jersey, I never once felt about to fall asleep. I did have to repeat some words to my mother throughout, but that's nothing new. For some reason she has trouble understanding British and Scottish accents. Anywho, we had both forgotten parts of the story since it's been so long since either of us read it and now I'm even more excited (as if that was possible) for the show to be on Starz next Spring.

Do you have any audio book suggestions for my next road trip?

Happy Reading!
