The Chalet: Flooring & the Main Living Space

First, I just want to share with you the paint color I chose for the front door. In life, I typically stick with neutrals, muted tones. But The Chalet is now grey with white trim so I wanted a front door color that stands out, that feels welcoming. I was deciding between a butter yellow, a vibrant green, but ultimately went with Behr's Hacienda Blue P490-6.

Okay, so moving on. If you caught my Instagram story Saturday you saw me freak out when I walked into The Chalet and discovered the floors had been installed while I'd been at work. We went with the same character oak that we've used on the past two houses. It's light, bright, and looks so good in any style house.

Okay, quick reminder how the kitchen was dark and closed off before...

Now standing in almost the same spot (a couple feet to the left)...

After doing about as much sanding as I could stand to do (sanding is literally my least favorite part of renovating, like, I enjoy port-a-potties more than sanding) my dad suggested we bring the cabinets up from the garage. So we unpacked them and figured out where they belong and lay them out so we can get a sense of what the kitchen is going to look like, spacing wise.

Knowing that this kitchen would be bigger than any kitchen we've done, I opted to go back to white shakers. I chose dark knobs and want to do black granite. I also asked for a couple upper cabinets to have glass panels, to break up the monotony of white on white. My dad keeps commenting that kitchen is huge, as if that's a detractor. What do you think, can a kitchen be too big? As someone who has a smaller stove and fridge than normal, and only one square foot of counter space, I say no. A kitchen can never be too big. Wait until you see the island.

  5. Your new home looks terrific and I also like the rooster wallpaper. Everything look so good and you need your things from your sold house - it makes it more like home.
