Graceland: Kitchen Demo

So the kitchen... Our first day in the house my dad and I demoed the kitchen straight away as it was the biggest project to tackle. I don't want to brag, but it was completely demoed by 2:30pm.

Probably the biggest issue was the faux brick, which was stuck to the wall with asphalt. Otherwise, the appliances and cabinets came apart relatively easy.

The most time-consuming part was tearing up all the floor tile, which, in some weird way was actually kind of fun, definitely gratifying. And there were a lot of tiles.

I know this may sound weird, but sometimes I find that a room looks bigger when there are kitchen cabinets in it. After we'd removed all the cabinets the room felt smaller to me. Granted, there was a pile of tiles in the middle of the room.

Once the room was completely cleaned out, we taped out where the cabinets and island will go and then discussed layout - where to stick the stove, dishwasher, what to do beneath the right window, which is lower than the one on the left, etc.

The next day we drove up to Manchester to meet with the guy who did the cabinets at Porchlandia, to discuss what I wanted for color, style, etc. So now we wait two weeks until the kitchen arrives and then put the room back together.

I can't wait to see what the cabinets look like when they arrive! After two houses in a row of white shakers I'm excited to see how something different looks. Fingers crossed I made the right design choice!
