Bookshelf: Jodie Picoult & Samantha Van Leer

I realized today, when a person on the T bent their head to examine the book I'm currently reading, that I have somehow become the main character in BETWEEN THE LINES. I am reading a book whose target audience is over a decade younger than me, and I'm sneaking in reading time wherever I can. I can't help it though, I swear.

BETWEEN THE LINES is a fairy tale, or rather, what happens to the characters in a fairy tale when the reader closes the book. It's also about Delilah, a teen who cannot stop reading the fairy tale even though it's meant for kids half her age. Delilah adores the prince in the story and one day while reading she realizes that something is different about a page that she has looked at many times.

Oliver (the story's prince) has dreamed of being heard by someone outside of his story for as long as he can remember and Delilah is the accident prone, social pariah in need of an outlet and friend. When they make a connection through the barrier of the book's pages, an adventure of sorts begins. It's two parts fairy tale mixed with one part reality and though it's meant for teens I'm really enjoying it. Also, there are these beautiful drawings scattered throughout the story that you really have to pause for a few moments and really take in.

I've always loved fairy tales, which is probably why I love watching ABC's Once Upon a Time. I just love being able to escape reality for a bit and enjoy the magical and fantastical.

So that's what I'm reading this week. What's the next book in your pile?
