Bookshelf: Jay Asher

I am still on vacation from WHILE CHRIST AND HIS SAINTS SLEPT. I just need a break from 1142 Britain, just for a minute. So I picked up THE DISREPUTABLE HISTORY OF FRANKIE LANDAU-BANKS last week and finished it while on my way to DC. I have very mixed feelings about that book... I loved it, it drove me nuts, I couldn't put it down, I wanted to have a stern conversation with Frankie. But I won't discuss that now. Today's post is about being annoyed with my own sabotaging when I read books. I've done it before and I did it again last night while reading THIRTEEN REASONS WHY.

Last night I sat in the laundromat waiting for the rinse cycle to end and I flipped to the back of THIRTEEN REASONS WHY. I keep telling myself I was just looking for Jay Asher's little biographical blurb but part of me doesn't believe myself because if that was true how the heck did I end up with my finger on the last page of the story? And then I saw the last word and I wanted to punch myself.

I can't decide if I've ruined the book by knowing how it's going to end. I luckily didn't read more than the last word so maybe it's salvageable. Why do I keep doing this to myself? Grrr! Has anyone else done this to themself or am I alone in this unintentional sabotage?

PS. While I at first had some trouble keeping the two narrators straight (italics aren't bold enough a change for me), now I can't put it down. This morning I wished the T would slow down so I'd have more reading time before having to get off and head into work. Very good read and while it's YA I think every age should read it.
