So it's been a while...

It has been a while.  Quite a while.  And I apologize.

I'm sure you could tell after that post regarding agent rejections that I needed a break. So I stopped querying agents and focused on life. I started working part-time for a friend, had lots of dinners out with girlfriends, caught up on my dvr (and yet it's back up to 84% so...), went on vacation, and read a boatload of books.  And I didn't really think about writing.

Actually, that's not completely true. Writing is always somewhat present, whether it's while daydreaming at work and thinking up a plot line or some dialogue for one of the two books that I keep starting and pausing work on.  But I wasn't actively writing.

And then, of all things, I read Stephenie Meyer's "The Host".  I know. Please don't judge me. I lost sleep and stopped watching tv just so I could finish it. And I found out HBO was free for only two more days so I had an entire season of True Blood to catch up on. Twelve episodes. The gym went out the window. I became a hermit and lost track of time and day. Though I did manage to fit time in to do this... Just a typical Saturday night.

But my point is that "The Host" sucked me in and I hadn't felt that way about a book in a while. I almost called in sick to work just so I could stay in bed and read, except my coworker was already taking the day off so it wasn't an option. I wanted to feel that consumed with a story again and I felt that way, a year ago about my last project. So on Monday I got back on the querying bandwagon and began again.

I know there are going to be a lot more rejections before I run out of agents to query. There may not even be one who requests the full manuscript. But if I was as obsessed with these characters as I was during writing (and to my best cheerleader Molly's credit, she was just as obsessed when she read it) then I am sure there will be readers out there who will be just as obsessed. So I just have to keep going, right? If the agent thing doesn't work out I can certainly go the self-publishing route again. I've done it once before so I'll be more knowledgeable the second go round. So I guess it's time to do another round of edits, keep on querying and see what happens.

Happy reading!
